THE WATER CRISIS IS THE PROBLEM WHERE IT ALL BEGAN. EVEN TODAY, IT IS A PRIMARY PROBLEM IN JHABUA, WORSENED BY DEFORESTATION AND GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE. SHIVGANGA HAS BEEN WORKING WITH TRIBAL PEOPLE OF JHABUA, EMPLOYING ‘NATIVE WISDOM’ COUPLED WITH MODERN-DAY TECHNOLOGY IN ORDER TO RESPOND TO THIS PROBLEM.
Matavan
- Matawan is another such tradition of Bhil tribe, in which a protected sacred forest is created outside every village and cutting trees from village Matawan is strictly against community laws.
- 430000 trees have been planted in the form of ‘Matawan’. Trees in return reduce the water run-off and increase the ground water level.
Halma
- Halma is an ancient tradition of Bhil tribe of coming together for making greater changes.
- Shivganga realised and harnessed its potential for water conservation
- To make Halma popular and attract the attention of the world towards this sustainable solution of climate change, Shivganga has been organising scaled up version of Halma since 2009.
- In the event of 2018, 30000 contour trenches were constructed.
- More than 12000+ people participated coming from different corners of the country including students from imminent institutes like IITs, IIMs, TISS and other premier technical and non-technical institutes of the country.
Gram Engineering Varg
- Gram Engineering Varg is organised to make villagers familiar with the technical aspects of building water structures like check dam or ponds.
- Shivganga collaborates with technical institutes like SGSITS Indore to bring technology to villagers.
- At least two volunteers from every village are trained to become‘Gram Engineers’
- Till now the faculty of SGSITS and other experts have imparted the knowledge and information to more than 1300 Gram Engineers.
