‘FORESTS’ AND ‘TRIBAL PEOPLE’ USED TO INSEPARABLE TERMS. THEY USED TO CO-EXIST WITH TRIBAL BEING THE GUARDIAN AND PROTECTOR OF FORESTS. EXPLOITATION OF FORESTS AND SNATCHING THE NATURAL RIGHTS OF TRIBES NOT ONLY DEVASTATED THE FORESTS BUT ALSO DAMAGED THE LIVELIHOOD CAPABILITY OF TRIBAL PEOPLE. TREES ARE AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE LIFE OF TRIBAL PEOPLE AND NO RITUAL IS COMPLETE WITHOUT AN ODE TO JUNGLE. DEFORESTATION IS ALSO CONTRIBUTING TO THE WATER CRISIS PROBLEM OF JHABUA.
Matavan
Shivganga revived ‘Matawan’ tradition wherein protected area trees are not only planted but also taken care till they are mature. As of now 41 Matawan has been created having 43000 trees.
Halma
Halma is an ancient tradition of Bhil tribe for coming together to make something happen.
Today Halma is organised at various levels in more than 1300 villages in Jhabua-Alirajpur through which 73000+ trees have been planted.
